Derek and I first met in Saudi Arabia back in 1984 / 85. When he went back to ‘Blighty ‘we kept in touch, initially through snail mail and his wonderful pen and ink Christmas card sketches. It seems only yesterday that he and Carole visited me here in Mid Wales - hadn’t changed a bit. The Derek I knew, was and remains in my memories as one of the the good guys one meets along the way.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are.
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
